North Cyprus Helpful Information

Ercan Airport North Cyprus
Getting there
Currently it is not possible to fly directly to Northern Cyprus there are two other options though
To Ercan (pronounced Ershan) in Northern Cyprus via Turkey, there are several operators who offer this route from most of the major London and some larger regional airports. From the UK to mainland Turkey (destination airports vary) flight time approx 4 hours, you do not disembark but stay on the plane for about 45 minutes before a 70 minute flight direct to Ercan. From Ercan the main resort towns Girne (Kyrenia) or Gazimagusa (Famagusta) are little more than a half hour away with Tatlisu Marina being a similar drive.
Flights available from
London Heathrow
London Stanstead
Alternatively it is possible and usually cheaper (even allowing for taxi fares) to fly directly to Larnaca in the south (about a 4 hour flight) and take a taxi to your resort, (expect to pay about £40 each way) transfer time about 80 minutes. The border crossing is straightforward; your taxi driver will complete the formalities. You can pre-book your taxi to meet you at the airport see under transport for details.
Flights available from

Driving and Car hire
Driving is on the left as the UK, most cars are right hand drives although you will see a few left hand drives (presumably brought over from mainland Turkey). The main routes offer good roads and there is currently ongoing improvement on many roads.
Once you get off the beaten track rural roads are often narrow and uneven but perfectly passable.
The mountain road from Gecitkale to Tatlisu is now virtually complete and offers a quick and scenic route from Ercan airport.
When renting the apartment attractive car hire rates and airport transfers are available and can be arranged through the complex management - contact us for more details.

Tree of Idleness and the Abbey Bell Tower - Bellapais
Both restaurants offer fantastic views of the abbey particularly at night when illuminated. There is a continual chorus of very loud frogs! Good food which is cheaper than the harbour together with free taxi collect and return from the Kyrenia area make both restaurants firm favourites.
Bella Moon Bellapais.
Good food, reasonably priced. Attractive al fresco eating in secluded courtyard.
Kervans Bar and restaurant - Karaoglanoglu
Unpromising approach but once seated great views of the beach, bay and coast. Good food, reasonable prices.
Alagadi Beach Restaurant
Daytime only, simple, uncomplicated restaurant but freshly cooked, good quality food served right on the beach. Chicken Shish with chips and salad 10TL, about £3.80.
Eagles Nest Restaurant coast road just west of Esentepe
Perched on the cliff top over looking the sea, good food and views that wont break the bank.
